This is a close-up of a study model representing the support structure at Stansted Airport in the United Kingdom by architect Norman Foster. This image shows how the steel cables that hold the roof in compresison connect to the base of the "tree". Also there are four steel rods that extend out to support the 18m x 18m roof at four corners. Materials used are aluminum rods and steel cables.
